Bindu Seeta Subramaniam

Another Indian musical kid, Bindu Seeta Subramaniam daughter of violin maestro L Subramaniam is receiving great applaud internationally for her work. She is singer as well as a song writer. A song ‘When It’s Dark’, composed by her received an honorable mention at 16th Annual Billboard World Song Contest. However also at the 12th Unisong International Song Contest she was among the top 20 finalist. She is the first Indian to receive such an honor.

Excited after the recognition, Bindu says that her father is proud of her. But unlike father she has ear for western music. “I liked world music as a child. While my dad is entirely into classical music, he’s always encouraged me to follow my heart, which lies in western music,” says Bindu.

For the album she has worked with musical biggies including her father, Corky Siegel and also Matthew Santos. Talking about her album, she says, “My album is about my experiences and this song deals with faith and our difficulty in sustaining it through our dark moments.” She also made her father to play piano for the album. And she wittingly says, “He didn’t even charge me for it.”

She later admits that her father is the source of motivation for her, but she also admires jazz vocalist Ella Fitzgerald a lot.
